setup Access Point with WPA encryption on Linux

1- install hostapd
root@wireless# apt-get install hostapd

2- create configuration of your access point place it in the following file, /etc/hostapd/wpa-ap.conf

interface=wlan0
driver=nl80211
ssid=wpa-encrypted
hw_mode=g
channel=1
macaddr_acl=0
auth_algs=1
ignore_broadcast_ssid=0
wpa=3
wpa_passphrase=1234aabb44
wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
wpa_pairwise=TKIP
rsn_pairwise=CCMP



-- in the configuration above --
wireless SSID is: wpa-encrypted
wireless key is: 1234aabb44

3- Start the access point
root@wireless# hostapd /etc/hostapd/wpa-ap.conf
Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/wpa-ap.conf
Using interface wlan0 with hwaddr 3c:cc:11:2d:bb:aa and ssid "wpa "
wlan0: interface state UNINITIALIZED->ENABLED
wlan0: AP-ENABLED





----- Note ----
If you want to set this linux to be wireless router, set ip on wireless interface and do the routing, NAT.

Or we just bridge its to other other interface like eth0, etc. to act as wireless access point/switch
